Breathe Better this Allergy Season
For some, the beauty of spring blossoms and the leaves appearing on the trees brings joy. For others, it’s a visual reminder of the sniffles, watery eyes, and sneezing that’s making their life miserable.
As someone with severe allergies, I empathize with so many fellow sufferers this season. I’m “lucky” enough to have indoor and outdoor allergies—to dust mites and grass, which are ubiquitous in daily life—and to have decades of experience exploring medical care and finding relief for my symptoms.
Give Yourself a Break
Do you struggle to let yourself rest?
If you spend time on social media, you’ll likely see posts glorifying a rise-and-grind, hustle culture and posts eschewing rest as weak and a failure.
I’m all for motivation, but please don’t let yourself fall into this trap. It’s not good for your mental or physical health and will leave you too exhausted to enjoy your hard-won progress.
Where is Your Time Going?
In this fast-moving world, it's easy to feel overwhelmed and overburdened. With so many demands on our time and attention, it can be challenging to accomplish everything we want to. However, by taking a closer look at how we spend our time, we can better understand our priorities and focus on the things that truly matter. That’s why time audits are helpful.
Work With Your Body to Address Stress
We all have stressors in our life, in one shape or another. They might be easy to brush off, like a rough commute, or harder to shake, like a toxic workplace. No matter what form our stress takes, we can work with our body to release and relieve it to feel calmer and more in control.
Let Your Light Shine
We all have a light that lives inside us. For some, it might be the tiniest spark; for others, it might be a roaring fire and zest for life. You may have recognized this light in someone who brightens a room when they arrive, exudes caring and generosity, or seems to operate from an innate sense of calm self-assurance.
Successful Goal-Setting for Your Best Year Ever
There are many reasons why most resolutions fall flat by the end of February. Often, the goals are too vague, not strategic, or just plain unattainable. And not achieving those goals can leave people feeling more discouraged than ever. So, how can you set goals that will actually be successful?
It’s Good to be Grateful
Gratitude, which is the state of being grateful, appreciative, or thankful, is good for you. It helps you feel satisfied with the life you are leading and with what you have and have accomplished. A sense of satisfaction can enrich our lives but can be hard to hold onto in a culture driven by wanting more, reaching for what's next, and short attention spans. This is why we need to practice gratitude rather than just waiting for it to strike.
Want to Be More Flexible? Yin Yoga May Be the Answer
From what I have seen as a yogi and a yoga teacher, some people love Yin Yoga, and some people can’t stand it. I find Yin Yoga relaxing and meditative, but some folks find the extended time spent in each pose a living hell. Are you curious about Yin Yoga? Let’s dive into what Yin Yoga is, how it affects the body, and whether you may benefit from this style of yoga.
Hatha Yoga: The Origins of Yoga and Modern Practice
Many styles of yoga are available today, so many that a new yogi may have a hard time figuring out what kinds of classes are right for them. Among the variations on offer, Hatha Yoga is a great class option for beginners and experienced yogis alike.
The Healing Power of Reiki
Feeling very “woo” and out of my comfort zone, I took the leap and signed up for a Reiki and Chakra Balancing treatment. The treatment was memorable in several ways, many of them too personal to share here, but I left the session feeling lighter than I had in years. It felt as though I had been unknowingly wearing a heavy overcoat made up of the energy of all the people around me, and someone had helped me take it off.
Creating a Beautiful Home Yoga Practice
Take a step back to consider why you’re starting a home practice and what you are looking to get out of it. Then arrange your space around that. Also, consider what you love about practicing in a studio and incorporate some of those elements.
Tips for Starting a Home Yoga Practice
As a yoga teacher, I often recommend that my students start to add yoga to their daily routines. While it can feel overwhelming to practice on one’s own at first, adding a daily yoga practice has many benefits for your health and mental wellbeing.
6 Ways to Boost Your Willpower
We know that willpower keeps us driving past McDonald's on our way home or steps in to say no to a third glass of wine. But what you may not know is that willpower isn't something you're either born with or not. And also, like a muscle, willpower can be overworked and exhausted. So you must strengthen your resolve and have a plan for when it's gone.
Batch Cooking: Easy Prep for Healthy Meals
We all know we need to incorporate more fruits and vegetables into our diet. Besides containing vitamins and minerals for nutrition, fruits and vegetables contain fiber. They are also low in calories, making them a filling and healthy part of a balanced diet. Now that we know what we should be eating, how do we make it easy and fit in with our busy schedules? The answer — batch cooking!
Intimidated by Yoga Studios? Why Private Yoga or Small Classes Might Be Best for You
Have you had a bad experience at a yoga studio? Have you ever felt unwelcome or ignored in a yoga class? Private yoga may be an option for you. Whether you're entirely new to yoga, are at the beginning of your journey toward better health, or are looking to complement your other workouts, private yoga can help.
The Health Benefits of Green Tea
A daily green tea habit was recommended by a nutritionist I worked with. Besides being delicious, hydrating, and providing a mild caffeine boost, green tea has been shown to offer many health benefits. Once she explained that it contained minimal caffeine and had a ton of science-backed health benefits, I was in!
How to Increase Flavor Without Added Salt, Fat, or Calories
One of my favorite ways to add a boost of flavor to dishes is to use alliums, citrus, and herbs for a layered, complex dish. They perk up your taste buds and add nutrition to the meal rather than empty calories.
Experience Ease and Relaxation with Yoga Nidra
One of the core principles of Yoga Nidra is our right to rest. We live in a very busy world, and with so much time spent online and the expectation that we all have a side hustle or three, it can be hard to give ourselves permission to just BE.
Real Self-Care to Avoid Burnout
We all experience stress at one time or another. And there can be good or bad stresses in your life. Good stress can be the butterflies you feel before a job interview or the hard work put in as you stretch yourself for a promotion. Bad stress can be the constant pressures of being a caregiver to an aging or ill loved one or dealing with a micromanaging boss at work.
